COMMUNITY. ONE. SERVICE.

Join us every Saturday at 5PM to Celebrate and Co-Create Community!  The Warrior Tribe offers free Yoga for ALL!  We ask that you bring at least one non-perishable item.  This could be food and/or NEW toiletries as a LOVE donation.  All items support JFS (Jewish Family Services) and the respective Food Pantries for homeless and food insecure kids that attend our community elementary schools.

This is a 45 minute All Levels Class.  It is helpful to sign up ahead and to arrive at least five minutes before class begins.

Bow Baseball Bliss!

Bow pose is a powerful addition to any stretching routine. Bow pose increases the flexibility of the entire spine.  Baseball (as well as all of life's activities!) require some degree of spinal flexion (forward bending). A baseball fielder's constant forward and anticipatory ready position puts continuous regular stress on their spines.

Bow Pose helps to open the lungs, vertebrae and hip flexors, which are often very tight in athletes. This gives baseballers greater spinal flexibility and rotation with less strain.  YES PLEASE!

Malasana; Yogic Squat; "Catcher Pose! "

Our NOT SO little ROCKSTAR plays catcher in Little League.  Is there a more fitting pose than Malasana?  In Malasana you plant you feet firmly into the floor, which helps to achieve balance and remain rooted as you lengthen your spine upward. This stretches your Achilles tendons, stabilizes your arches and aligns your knees and ankles. You get a good stretch in your calf muscles, hamstrings, groins and hip flexors. Opening your hips helps relieve knee pressure.   Malasana ALSO improves concentration, stimulates circulation, helps free your breathing and develops your lung power.  HOLY ASANA!!!

After further review, Malasana is good for EVERYONE!!!

P.S.  Happy Birthday to our not so little Rockstar!

BATTER UP! WARRIOR II and SHIFTING DIRECTIONS

Warrior II increases power in your hips, quads and core!  Warrior II is great for improving twisting movements such as swinging a baseball bat AND for changing directions quickly, which is necessary in fielding.  Hip injuries in baseball are on the rise, and surgery is becoming more and more common.  The hip joint is a ball in a socket. The socket has a fibrous rim called the labrum. The labrum is soft, firm and rubbery, like an inner tube on a bike wheel.  If the labrum becomes frayed,  torn or detached, injuries can occur.  Bone spurs can develop and cartilage can become damaged over time.  Baseball players put tremendous pressure and force through their hip joint, whether swinging a bat, changing directions when catching, throwing and fielding and running the bases.  The ligaments that stabilize the hip and encapsulate the entire joint and help to protect the HUGE muscles that motor the leg and stabilize the body.

Baseball and Yoga!

It is no secret that the Zamoffs are baseball fans.  Our little Warrior plays catcher for his Little League team, and it is clear his meditation and yoga have assisted him in tapping into the cerebral qualities of this position.  As we embark on a cross country adventure (and catch many Minor League games) we will be blogging daily and speaking to the infinite benefits for all athletes, but specifically baseball players.  Whether it is preventing injury, rejuvenating between games, building strength or harnessing mental acuity, yoga does a baseball player good!

STAY TUNED...
